Bio

Estelle Guillet is a handisport rider of the French para-dressage team. Is participated in her first championship in North Carolina and has quickly become the 6th in the world. She began competing under the Swiss flag in 2017 before switching to compete for France in the 2018 season. She possesses dual French-Swiss citizenship.

Estelle Guillet found herself on the back of a pony at the age of 4. Her father entrusted her with a pony at age 12 and she began accompanying her grandfather for walks through the woods.

At age 16, Guillet left her family to obtain her BTS (higher technician certificate) in horse breeding. She started equestrian competitions with show jumping. On February 14, 2001, an accident during a course resulted in Guillet losing sensitivity in her right leg from the knee to her foot. All feeling in her foot was blocked.

It took years before she went up on horseback and regained her confidence. No longer able to jump, she began dressage. Guillet finished last in her first dressage competition but put in years of work to achieve the ability to compete with able-bodied riders.

Guillet considers herself very lucky. Lucky that it was only an injury, and that she is surrounded by family and a support network.

Today, Estelle Guillet competes with able-bodied riders on Swiss squares. There are no competitions for para-athletes at the regional or national level. In November 2016, she was promoted to the elite level, and competed in the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. Additionally, Guillet is a dressage judge and gives classes through the Fribourg Federation of Equestrian Sports.
