Francois Gauthier is among the most respected reining trainers with more than 40 years of experience training and showing reining horses and business management. He has created an impressive legacy earning two silver medals from the World Equestrian Games and numerous Derby, Congress and Open Futurity wins.

Bio

With more than 40 years as a reining champion and trainer, Francois Gauthier has created an impressive legacy. While an active competitor he earned two silver medals from the World Equestrian Games and numerous Derby, Congress and Open Futurity wins. Originally from Quebec, Canada, Francois relocated to North Carolina in 1992 where he established Sunny Pines Farm, in order to breed and train champion reining horses. More than 150 horses are bred and trained at Sunny Pines every year.

Francois is a 15-time NRHA Futurity Finalist and NRHA Judge. He has also won some of the most prestigious reining events, including the All-American Quarter Horses Congress in Columbus, the Italian Derby and Americana in Germany. 2002 Silver Medal at the World Equestrian Games in Spain, 2004 All-American Quarter Horses Congress, AQHA Junior Reining Champion and 2004 NRHA Open Futurity Reserve Champion. Francois is among the top 20 lifetime NRHA earners.

Now in retirement, when asked about the aspect of his legacy, Gauthier defers to his father’s generation. Gauthier’s father was the first quarter horse breeder in Quebec, starting in 1965.

Understanding the importance of having the right tools for effective training, Gauthier knows that good tack is a key ingredient for winning results.
